Description
Romo Studios has created several pieces for the North Highlands-Antelope Public Library in Sacramento, which were unveiled in 2000. The artwork for the library is meant to inspire a sense of wonder and adventure with bronze statues of books and mosaics that evoke illuminated manuscripts.
Adan's work, "Illuminated Gateways," is a 4' x 8' piece made from acrylic glass. The bronze books, "Silent Conversations," are stacked 44" x 21" tall. The top book is open to reveal the following two quotes by poets Emily Dickinson and Pablo Neruda:
There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears the Human Soul
- Emily Dickinson

We
the wandering poets
explored
the world,
at every door
life received us,
we took part
in the earthly struggle.
What was our victory?
A book...
- Pablo Neruda
